Crimson and Steam was a disappointment to me. After getting hooked on the previous strong characters and compelling storylines in Crimson City, A Taste of Crimson and a Darker Crimson, the disintegration of Jill and Marius's characterization was a let-down. Marius, who had been solidly built into a dark, brooding, and honorable figure, blithely moves on from Tatiana, to Jill whom he finally accepts as his true love--an insight unfortunately gained at the expense of Tatiana. None of the flashblack interweaving could despell the horror of Marius's actual wedding of the lovely, young sacrificial werewolf. This "horror" was felt despite the fact that there was no emotional attachment to Tatiana who seemed far too young, to be far too eager to accept an arranged marriage. The dynamic tension which permeated most of the previous stories was sadly missing except for a brief moment when it looked as if Hayden's chaotic heart might be softened by Tatiana. Jill's character lost focus. This time she lacked the toughness and intelligence shown in earlier books. My enchantment with this series is over unless a subsequent book might bring us up to date on Korza and Claudia, Keely and Michael...oh, and...Aslet.

@janicu You are welcome for the review. It is certainly a continuation. I think that it has a great cover too. About half the book is steampunk the other half is paranormal.

Hmm.. 8th book? I knew about the Crimson series, but I wasn't sure that Crimson and Steam would be a continuation or stand alone. I'd wondered because the series was paranormal, but not steampunk, and Crimson and Steam was supposed to be steampunk. Anyway, love the cover, wasn't sure about picking it up cause I couldn't get into the Crimson series. Thanks for the review!
