Interview & Giveaway with Vivi Andrews

Today we have the very versatile Vivi Andrews here to talk to us about her newest release, Reawakening Eden. This novella from Samhain will feature a new and exciting post-apocalytpic world.

Andrews currently has two series out with Samhain right now: the Karmic Consultant and Serengeti Shifters. She also has a stand alone novella in the Carina press Winter Wishes anthology feature three paranormal powerhouse authors.

Vivi, welcome to The Book Pushers!

V: Thank you so much for having me today! I’m delighted to be here.

The Book Pushers: Tell us a little bit about Reawakening Eden.

V:  Reawakening Eden is my first post-apocalyptic romance.  After a massive epidemic wipes out most of the world’s population, librarian Eden Fairfax goes into survival mode, taking care of two orphaned kids and navigating the strange remnants of society.  Just when things are going to hell in a handbasket, she meets studly former-soldier Connor Reed.  He may look like an action hero, but he just wants to be left alone to enjoy the end of the world in peace – but you can’t always get what you want.  (And I’m gonna stop right there before I launch into a Stones song.)

The Book Pushers: Where did the inspiration for this novella come from?

V:  It’s actually an idea I’ve been kicking around for years.  I’m intrigued by the thought of what form society would take if only a handful of us were left to reconstruct it – the infrastructure is still there and our memory of what the world should be, but we’re still left starting new.  After the trauma of the apocalypse, what do we become, as individuals and as a society?  I was fascinated by the concept and started playing with this story (in various versions) almost a decade ago, rolling it around until it turned into a romance.

The Book Pushers: What is YOUR favorite post-apocalyptic book?

V: Oh wow. So many! I’m a sucker for The Stand by Stephen King – that man’s characters just wring me dry.  Or really anything with a dystopian bent will get me – Hunger Games is a particular favorite.

The Book Pushers: What genre do you prefer to write and why?

V:  I thrive on variety so I’m always tempted to explore various genres and tones.  I love writing the Karmic Consultants series because those stories give me a chance to play around, but if they were all I wrote, I’d get sick of them in no time.  I need that variety – sexy, dark, or playful, I’ve gotta change it up.

The Book Pushers: Do you plan to write more books set within this world?

V:  I don’t have immediate plans for more books in this post-apocalyptic world, but I never say never.  Just as soon as I decide I’m not going to write one, a great idea will pop up that I just can’t resist.

The Book Pushers: How many more books can we expect to see in the Karmic Consultants Series?

V:  There will be two more full length novels coming in the Karmic Consultants series – Finder’s Keeper (AKA the Surfer & the Scientist) and then closing out the series will be Karma’s story, which has the working title Naughty Karma.  I don’t have release dates for these babies yet, but with luck (and my editor’s sufferance) they’ll be out in 2012.

The Book Pushers: MinnChica has read and enjoyed the Serengeti Shifters books. Please tell us more are coming! Please?

V:  LOL.  I’m so glad MinnChica enjoyed them!  I’m taking a little break from the shifters at the moment, but I do have plans for a future expansion of the Serengeti Shifters series to include new shifter prides and packs – and whole new sets of sexy shifters just dying to find their mates.

The Book Pushers: What other projects are you currently working on?

V:  Right now I’m finishing the last Karmic Consultants book. (Karma’s story is open in another window right now.)  As soon as I have Naughty Karma off my desk, I plan to dive into some more Superhero stories.  (I’ve been totally sucked in by the wild world of caped crusaders.)

The Book Pushers: We heard that you are going to be writing one of the novella in the Superhero anthology with Samhain and Sasha Knight (the fabulous editor of the CyberPunk Romance Anthology). Can you tell us anything about that story?

V:  I’m so excited about this anthology!  My story, Superlovin’, is the tale of DynaGirl, a superheroine, trying to find a date who won’t feel emasculated by her ability to bench-press a Humvee, who starts falling for the very supervillain she was sent to thwart.  It’s the classic story of a good girl and the ultimate bad boy.

The Book Pushers: What one sentence would you use to convince a new reader to try one of your series?  You can pick the series.

V:  How ‘bout Karmic Consultants: Paranormal problem solvers finding love amid supernatural mayhem – dive in for some light, snarky paranormal fun.

Thank you so much for having me here today, Book Pushers!

  5. A very interesting name for the series: Karmic. The name is so close to karma and that kind of funny since I have been thinking about karma a lot lately. Coincidence…maybe.

  6. Ive enjoyed the Serengeti Shifters series and I’d loved to try some of Vivi’s other work.
