Fantasy Celebration: Lou’s Giveaway

When planning this Fantasy feature with the rest of the BookPushers, we wanted to try and introduce Fantasy to readers who may not have tried the genre. And I thought what better way to introduce readers to a genre they may not have tried by giving away free books.

Today I want to giveaway two books: One Fantasy romance, and the other Fantasy.

The first book I have chosen is the book we did a group review on yesterday, Waprize. Warprize is the first in a trilogy of books of the Chronicles of the Warlands, where a healer and warrior lord fall in love — despite major difference in cultures.

Here is the blurb:

SHE MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN HER PEOPLE AND HER FREEDOM…

Xylara is the Daughter of the Warrior King, Xyron. With her father dead and her incompetent half-brother on the throne, the kingdom is in danger of falling to the warring Firelanders.

Before she was old enough for a marriage-of-alliance, Xylara was trained as a healer. She can’t usurp her brother or negotiate a peace–but she can heal the brave ones injured in battle.

But not only her countrymen are wounded, and Xylara’s conscience won’t let Firelander warriors die when she can do something to save them. She learns their language and their customs and tries to make them as comfortable as possible, despite their prisoner-of-war status.

She never expects that these deeds, done in good faith, would lead to the handsome and mysterious Firelander Warlord demanding her in exchange for a cease-fire. Xylara knows must trade the life she has always known for the well-being of her people, and so she becomes…

For lovers of romance, if you’re not a fan of the fantasy genre per say, the romance between Lara and Kier is just…well, it’s one of those reads for me that make it memorable for life.

The other book I want to giveaway is a Fantasy Sc-fi. I’ve chosen this book because it was my first read by this author in my teens, and set off a love for the Pern world. For those who haven’t read the Pern series, the world is alight with dragons and deadly Threadfire. The White Dragon features young Jaxom, and his white dragon, Ruth.

Never had there been as close a bonding as the one that existed between the young Lord Jaxom and his extraordinary white dragon, Ruth. Pure white and incredibly agile, Ruth possessed remarkable qualities. Not only could he communicate with the iridescent, fluttering fire lizards, but he could fly. Back in time to any WHEN with unfailing accuracy. Nearly everyone else on Pern thought Ruth was a runt who would never amount to anything, but Jaxom knew his dragon was special. In secret they trained to fight against the burning threads from the Red Planet, to fly Back in time as well as Between, and finally their close and special union was to result in the most startling and breathtaking discovery of all…

As I’m giving away a few books during this Fantasy feature, there will be only be one winner for these two books. To enter, all you have to do is comment below. Giveaway is open to wherever The Book Depository ships to.

Good luck!

  1. Warprize sounds awesome, it popped up on my Goodreads the other day and I thought it looked pretty interesting.

  2. I’m currently looking up scifi and fantasy titles for my book club, so this is a timely and helpful post! My book club reads a different genre every month. Thus far, we’ve read YA, short stories, adult literary fiction, and a graphic novel.

  3. Thank you for this feature Book Pushers and for the generous giveaway Lou. I am a fantasy virgin, there I said it. I made it a personal challenge to discover this genre in 2012 but I’m a little anxious scared that I will feel lost with all the imaginary worlds, special and descriptions, so I am grateful for any good recommendations. Thank you, taking notes of these!

  4. Thanks for the great giveaway! I’ve been wanting to read War Prize and I read White Dragon, eons ago, back in high school, when I first discovered Anne McCaffery 🙂

  5. So far fantasy month has started off with a bang! And as I expected I am finding new books (at least new to me) to add to my TBR list! Like both of these. So thanks for picking some great sounding books. =)

  6. I think i would love these books, warprize is really catching my eyes so thanks youa lot for this great international giveaway

    all the best

  7. I read a few of Anne McCaffrey when I was much younger, loved the ones I read, this might be the time to re-read them. I have read War Prize, excellent book.

  8. Haven’t read Warprize but have read The White Dragon – wonderful book. I enjoyed the early Pern books very much.

I haven’t had the pleasure of reading any of your books, would love to win one so I can .

  10. I would love to win Warprize. I already own “The White Dragon” (and most of the other Pern book as well…).

  13. I have never heard of warprize, but I did read some pern books a few years ago. I always mean to start back up, but after a few I always put them down, just for a few books, and then I never seem to start the series back up. I’d like to read them all, the world building is unique and the books I read were good, there’s just so many of them and limited reading time. Thanks!

  14. Both of these books look great! I’m new to both of them and haven’t read hat many fantasy books, so these would get me going!

I am not familiar with the book but look forward to reading it, sounds exciting.

  16. I was such a Pern fan back in middle school. I couldn’t get enough of them. I still can’t. It just hard to find those earlier books.
