Jon and Heather, the hero and heroine of Inside Bet, are not kinky lovers in any easily explicable way. Most erotic romances can be classified along the lines of D/s (dominance and submission), bondage, sadomasochism (S&M), dubious consent (rape fantasies) or even roleplaying, as portrayed in Double Down, the first of the “Vegas Top Guns” series.

But what sort of kink is power play? Is it a board game? A contingency plan from the Department of Defense?

Basically, power play is the complete willingness to do anything along the sexual spectrum as long as there is risk between the consenting adults. Jon and Heather are power players. If there is a dare involved, either explicit or implicit, they’re up for it. The fabulous aspect of this far-ranging kink is that both partners come away satisfied in different ways. Sadist and masochists dovetail; so do power players. If Jon wins the scene by making Heather give in first (climax!) then how has Heather lost, exactly? Jon wins mentally—Ha! Victory is mine!—but she gets a pretty damn good deal too.

They get off on dares. The anticipation. The skill involved in pressing the advantage. The thrill of the moment when one of them can’t take it anymore.

As an erotic romance, this kink had so many possibilities. They were “switch” partners in the ultimate sense. Neither was exclusively dominant or submission, sadist or masochist. And they constantly teased each other (or, on occasion, threated each other) with their chosen safe word: Panda. Go on… Use it… I dare you…

As an example—a brief example, because this is a raunchy hot book and I’m trying to be good—the following takes place after Heather dares Jon to take a submissive role. He’s already admitted that he’s never opened, ahem, the back door, and he’s never given complete control to a woman. Once permission is given, however, game on. Heather takes full advantage:

“Shut up,” Heather said, “and turn onto your side.”
“Bulls**t.”
She lifted her brows. “Really? I thought you were up for more than this. I can climb on and get it over with if you want. Pandas are very pretty, after all. We could talk about them.” With the haughtiest expression she could muster, she stared him down. His frustration was gone. So was his surprise. A battle remained, some fight between his curiosity and his need for control. “But if you decide to keep going, don’t stop again.”
“Ah, f**k it,” he said at last. Jon slumped back against the bed. Another full-bodied laugh. Heather’s heart flipped over. “Might as well. Make it good, Heather love.”
“Spectacular. I promise.”
He tucked the scarf back over his eyes. “Bring it.”
“Mmm, I love the sound of that. But relax. You’re a little tense.”
That big, beautiful grin. His eyebrows were so animated that they poked out above the blindfold. “Can you blame me?”

But never fear. After complying to the letter, Jon gets his turn to run the show. “Now, Heather love, one spectacular orgasm coming up…”

So give Inside Bet a try. I dare you.

  1. Yep, my curiosity is piqued, I recently heard about the 1st book but didn’t know this was out. I’ve heard of power play but never read it before, however, it sounds like a win/win so bring it on!

  2. Definitely my interest was piqued, although it doe make me nervous a little. I had not heard of this before

  3. Oh Carrie, you do get around. My interest was piqued when I read your name. Inside Bet sounds yummy, I do love walking on the wild side. Bring it on!

  4. Hi Ladies!

Carrie describes it much more expressively than I would have managed. “They do dirty dares and have fun. Go buy it. The end!” 😉

    Good luck on winning.

  5. I have heard of power play. Something that my boyfriend and I would do just to spiced up our relationship.

  6. Oh, you have definitely piqued my interest! I can’t wait to see what Heather does to Jon….I have some lovely ideas running through my head right now, lol. I had not heard of power play before. I have only been reading erotic romances for about a year. But I have read many of them during this time. I will have to check into this and see about finding some more books with this theme.

  7. So cool! Everyone seems to be a little bit curious about these two dirty lovers. Lorelie and I are really making an effort to make our erotic romances memorable and unique. Enjoy!

  8. I have never heard of power play before and Yes, my curiosity had been piqued. I just finished Double Down and would love to win a copy of Inside Bet.

  9. Oh yeah, curiosity definitely piqued!I haven’t explored the erotica genre much, but from what I read so far, power play wasn’t included. BDSM seems to be the trend nowadays, so something so fresh must be really interesting to read 🙂

  10. Congrats on the new release. This book sounds fantastic. Can’t wait to read it. Thanks for the great excerpt, it really piqued my interest.
