Has and Lou’s best reads of 2013

Best breakout debut authors for Has:

Amy Raby
Tessa Bailey
Kylie Scott
Emma Chase

2013 has been an interesting year for me, and I think it was a better reading year because there were quite a few books I really loved and enjoyed. So here are my list of books but in no particular order.

Has’ best reads of 2013

World After by Susan Ee was a great followup to Angelfall–although I wished there were a few more scenes with Raffe and Penryn.
Beauty and the Billionaire by Jessica Clare was wonderful, quirky and cute but I also highly recommend the entire series but this is my favourite so far.
Reaper’s Property by Joanne Wylde. I think this is the best MC romance series out right now with a realistic insight into the world of motorcycle club sub-culture but at the same time the romance was fun and sexy.
Nalini Singh hit it out of the ballpark for me with the double glorious whammy of Archangel’s Legion and Heart of Obsidian. Both books were so damn good and I am in tenterhooks for both followups.
Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews. Hugh, Hugh, Hugh. I adore his character because he is so deliciously bad and is a great foil to Kate but this entry was dark, tense and funny, and the lead up for the next big story arc promises to be so epic.
Frost Burned. Adam’s POV was wonderful and I loved his insights about Mercy. While Patricia Briggs once again delivers the goods with more twists and turns, I think this has one of the best fight scenes I’ve read in a while.
Rogue’s Possession by Jeffe Kennedy is a darkly imaginative and quirky entry in the Covenant of the Thorns series. I highly recommend because I love Kennedy’s rich and dreamy tone.
Entreat Me by Grace Draven. It’s a fabulous romance with a dark twist with great touches of humour and compelling characters on the fairytale based on Beauty and the Beast.
Ann Aguirre had two releases this year. Agave’s Kiss which was a fantastic ending to the Corine Soloman series, while Perdition is the start of a new spinoff series. I highly enjoyed the tense SF romance setup in a prison ship with outlaws and criminals planning their escape.
The Beyond series by Kit Rocha continues to kick ass but Beyond Pain is my favourite so far and I adored the romance, and the ongoing arc kicks up a gear and cements this series.
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey which is an unusual take on an alien invasion with a strong heroine and fantastic world building.
Written in Red. Anne Bishop does it again with a brand new series and I am on tenterhooks for the next book.
The Sword Dancer by Jeannie Lin is a sumptuous and vibrant historical romance featuring a heroine who knows how to use a sword and the hero who has to hunt her down.
And finally Emma Chase’s Tangled which is a funny and snarky romance in the POV of the hero who is a bit of an alphahole, well a total alphahole, with the emphasis on the hole, but he was charming and sexy at the same time. And I loved that the heroine made him work for it as well as grovelling.

I’ve probably have left out some titles and authors but these books have been my highlight of the year and I hope if you do pick any of these up, they will become yours too!

2013 has been a quiet reading year for me but I’ve read some great books which I think deserve a mention. The list is in no particular order and I suspect many books are missing. As I’m writing this my brain is in a cloudy fog from overeating too much turkey so I’ve just listed the titles.
