I was intrigued by this one because of the series name, Seven Brides for Seven Shifters, which is a play off my all time favorite movie, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Sadly, this book didn’t come close to living up for me.
Lennox is petrified of dogs, so when she wakes up to one in her bed, she freaks out. To make a bad day worse, Lennox realizes her ex best friend, and love of her life, has a child who wants nothing more than Lennox to replace the mother he lost. To say her day went from bad to worse is an understatement.
Garrett wants his son back, and finding Lennox in the process brings back the sexual tension they felt in college. But with Lennox’s fear of dogs, and Garrett’s tendency to go furry, working past their history will be hard enough without adding shifters into the mix.
I can’t really explain this book other than saying it was a bit of a hot mess. Everything was so over the top and ridiculous that I found myself rolling my eyes constantly. To me, the book didn’t come across as fun or funny, instead it was a bit stupid and just plain ridiculous. From Lennox being totally clueless to shifters, despite living in a town of shifters and waking up with a wolf in her bed to the forced relationship between Lennox and Garrett that I’m still scratching my head over, I just couldn’t connect with this book.
To top it off, I didn’t really enjoy the main characters all that much. I thought Lennox was a bit immature and self-centered. She didn’t care that she was stringing along another man, all while pining for Garrett and lamenting that he chose someone else over her. I thought Garrett was a little bit better, but in trying to explain his past choices to Lennox, it felt like he continually said he didn’t care for her more than friends, but then wanted to be more than friends. I never really understood his motivation to be in a relationship with Lennox, and thought he had no reason to be with her in the present day.
All in all, I struggled with this book as a whole. The characters didn’t work for me, and the romance was ridiculous. On top of not understanding why they a. wanted to be together or b. eventually GOT together, the whole situation was made worse by the WAY they were finally brought together. The whole thing just felt very silly to me, and not in a fun way.
