I love Daniels writing, so when I saw she was starting a new series that was Sci-Fi romance based, I jumped on the chance to review it.
Silence has been an assassin for as long as she can remember. In fact, it’s all she remembers. When her handler tells her that if she completes one last job, she can have her freedom, Silence jumps at the chance to escape the life she hates more than anything. But once she finds her target, Silence questions everything she thinks she knows about her previous life, and what exactly she can do to move forward, as a free woman.
For me, this book felt a little like an extended prequel. Daniels set the stage for an amazing series, with a really intense direction, but I felt like this book set the stage for the crux of the series. I felt like the book ended exactly where Silence’s real journey to freedom starts. She now has every opportunity to live free, discover her past, and take revenge on the man who held her captive for so many years. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I also like the way Daniels set up the romance. Since Silence has lost most of her memories, we aren’t really too sure what is real, what is her dreams, and what are fragments of actual memory. I loved the way she reacted to Orion, and the way he reacted to her. Their time together was so short, and yet had such a powerful impact that I know their love story was and will continue to be epic. Again, I can’t wait to see what happens with them next.
All in all I really liked this story, and I think it sets up the rest of this series in a way that has been jonesing for the next book already. While I wish it wouldn’t have ended, it was a strong begining to what is sure to be another hit from Daniels.
I give Final Protocol a B
I doubt anyone will see this, this long after the review, but I recently read this, and it may be the last time I read anything by this author. Basically, the villain has a very distinctively Jewish name, and it’s both the first and last time that there’s anyone Jewish left in this universe. I felt slapped in the face.
