Review – Penalty Play by Lynda Aicher

Reviewer: MinnChica

Henrik is a well known ladies man and he is never without a woman on his arm. But meeting Jacqui is new and exciting for him. She isn’t his typical lady friend. She doesn’t care about his status, his money, or his fame. But as their sexual relationship develops, Jacqui realizes that Henrik needs more from her, and she will have to put aside the fears of her past and see if she can move toward her future.

I really wanted to love this book, the blurb hit all my buttons. Minnesota, hockey, sexy times! You really can’t go wrong there!! I did really enjoy a lot of this book, however the sex was the one thing that I found to be rather blah. I’ve never really been a huge fan of books that have a female dominant in the bedroom. (I can think of maybe one that I liked, and I’ve read quite a few) So in that regard, I was a bit let down.

Despite the bedroom antics, I really liked Jacqui. She had so much drama in her past, and the way that she had pulled through was so amazing to me. Her strength and determination to live life to the fullest made me so happy. I loved the way she handled Henrik and their relationship. She didn’t fall all over herself to nail him down, and was even hesitant to start something up with him because of his fame and status. That made her so likeable to me.

I really liked Henrik as well (outside of the bedroom, that is). He was passionate and yet a little bit scarred by his past. I loved his backstory and the special event at the end brought tears to my eyes. He was such a secretive guy, but once he started revealing himself to his friends and teammates, I just loved him more and more.

All in all, I loved the two main characters and the sweet and innocent aspects of their romance. They had wonderful chemistry and were so sweet and wonderful together. For readers who like to see a strong and demanding and dominate woman in the bedroom, this book will definitely be right up your alley!
I give Penalty Play a C
