RUST CITY BOOK CONVENTION BRINGS LIT TO DETROIT

The popular literary conference returns to Metro Detroit for its second year

Troy, MI – 6/27/17 – Metro Detroit reading enthusiasts can meet and interact with their favorite authors at the second annual Rust City Book Convention, a three-day event for genre fiction lovers, which will be held Friday-Sunday, August 4-6, 2017 at the Detroit Marriot Troy, 200 W. Big Beaver Rd. in Troy, Michigan.

Rust City Book Con was founded in 2016 by book reviewer and Literary Escapism, [Link added by BP], founder and editor Jackie Morgan, who noticed a decline in author visits to Metro Detroit after the Borders Bookstores—where many touring authors held launch events—closed.

“Tour schedules often pass Detroit despite its size and proximity to the Canadian border,” Morgan said. “I would like to fix that by giving authors a reason to visit.”

The event features a wide variety of authors, from nationally recognized bestsellers to self-published successes who write in genres ranging from romance to mystery to fantasy and beyond. And while the target audience is genre fiction readers, aspiring authors will have the opportunity to learn from and network with panelists as well. And for parents interested in attending with their tweens and teens, there will be at least one track of panels that is age-appropriate for and of interest to adolescents.

Attendees can engage with 40 authors from Michigan and beyond at panels, signings and meet-and-greet parties, including USA Today bestselling romance novelists Melanie Harlow, Jane Charles and Deb Marlowe; science fiction author and actor Wayne Bibbs; paranormal LGBT suspense author Stephen Osborne; USA Today bestselling cozy mystery author Tonya Kappas; YA fantasy novelists Azriel Johnson, Evan D. Heuker and Mackenzie Flohr; and Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award-winning writer Susan Gee Heino.

Another highlight of the conference is the Charity Book Signing, which is free and open to the public and benefits Child’s Play charities located at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, MI and Children’s Hospital Michigan in Detroit. Attendees are asked to bring a gently used adult or children’s book, which will help to fill a new Little Free Library to be installed within the community after the event. The location of the library, as well as the library installation piece itself, will be revealed and displayed during the book signing.

Registration is $85 and includes all events. Convention-goers from out of town can reserve a room at the Detroit Marriott Troy for the conference rate of $89 per night. More details are available at www.rustcitybookcon.com.

“I’m a reader who loves to talk about books, and that’s what I want to do,” said Morgan. “Hopefully you’ll be with us at Rust City so we can do that together.”
