I love the Midnight Breed series, and although I was so sad to see the major plot arc of the first set of books end, I was anxious to see what Adrian would do with the younger generation of Breed warriors.
Nathan is a Gen One Breed hunter who was raised under the mad-man Dragos. Although he’s been with his family and the Order for years, he still can’t let go the lethal killer in him that he was bred to be. But meeting Jordana is testing all his limits, and making him want things that he never imagined possible.
Jordana is well known in Boston as a socialite, she comes from money and can want for nothing. But as perfect as her life looks from the outside, she struggles with living the life she desperately wants. Getting Nathan to look past his demons and see her for the woman she really is, is harder than she expected. But when Nathan’s Order Mission intersects with Jordana, he will stop at nothing to protect her.
I have to say, when Adrian started this new plot arc with the younger generation of Breed warriors, I was a little worried. Would I like them as much? Would the story line be engaging? While I love the characters, I’m struggling a little to really get into the new overall plot arc. The addition of a new immortal race of Atlantean people hasn’t really pulled me in yet, and I’m not too sure that it will be able to. I wish that I found that aspect of the new storyline exciting and new, but I’m really having a hard time connecting with the drama and where the story will be going overall, especially as I feel like the overall arc is moving at a snail’s pace.
That being said, I did like the twist with Jordana and how she will probably play a major part for books to come. I thought it was different and interesting and I’m excited to see where this takes the series overall. I thought her relationship with Nathan was really great as well. I loved the way Nathan had to fight with himself internally on a lot of levels before he allowed himself to commit to Jordana in anyway. It absolutely broke my heart to read what Nathan had to go through as a child while growing up under Dragos’ care.
I like all the secondary Breed characters that Adrian is introducing to the world, and think it’s a little hilarious that the Order has become this place where all the original warriors and their kids are kicking ass and takin names. It’s fun to see some of the older generation as parents, and how they are reacting to putting their children in danger night after night.
All in all, while I liked the romance between Nathan and Jordana, as well as their individual characters, I wish that the overall plot arc would reveal a little more as to the direction that Adrian plans on taking the series. I’m anxious to see what unravels next, but wish the overall goals were a little more defined.

I agree with all you have said in this review. I applaud Adrian for daring to make a change rather than let the series keep going and possibly stagnating. But things are moving slowly. I think because not only does she have to do some world building and creating the new story-arc, she also has to introduce and build backgrounds for so many new characters. I liked this one more than the prior book, and Nathan was awesome. I’ll keep reading… hoping things pick up soon.
