We are super lucky to have Carly back here again today to talk about her newest release Destiny, and her writing zone. Carly, take it away!

Where I Write

Everyone has their special place to write. Mine used to be a desk and that was fine. Back in the days of a large, heavy computer, that is. I’ve been writing on a laptop for years and one day, a writer friend told me about her recliner chair – her special writing spot. I wasn’t happy with my writing place at that point, I was having ergonomic-related pain, and so I purchased a recliner – and suddenly my special writing place was born!

The cool thing about my writing spot and the recliner chair is that it’s catty-cornered, which leaves a space for my dogs to head behind the chair, stash toys, cuddle up and hang while I work.

My first dog, Buddy, used to go under the foot part of the recliner or next to it. He never ventured behind. Bailey, my second wheaten, LOVES to hang behind the chair and I admit I write better knowing she’s safe and happy back there. Brady, my Havanese boy, goes back there but he hasn’t yet figured out his “place.” Kind of like me before I found my recliner chair. He can’t be back there while Bailey is, and he’s still too much of a puppy to settle yet. But I can’t wait for that day.

I love writing in my chair – and when I’m not on it, the dogs sneak there so they can see what they can find on the table top next to it. Or just to cuddle there. Either way, I don’t mind. When I need time to myself, I head to my chair. When I want to watch my ABC soap operas alone, I head to my chair.

And when I wrote my newest Serendipity Book, Destiny, I wrote it in the chair!

So tell me – where is your special spot? Where do you curl up with a book? Or go to hide away from the world for a bit?

  1. For me it’s my mother bed. I go there where i’m sick so the dog can cuddle with me ( and sometimes the cat too) and i feel rassured by extension it’s there that i love to read my books too

thanks you for the international giveaway

  2. We’ve got 2 sofas in the living room and there is one in particular and one side of it thats ‘mine’ I like to curl up there to read with the dog sleeping next to me and my fleece blanket wrapped round me when it’s cold. If I’m hiding from the world however it’s my bedroom every time, it’s my sanctuary.

I curl up on either my couch with my fav warm throw or my fav chair in the living room… I always have a cup of hot tea by myside or in the summer it will be out in the back yard witha a tall glass of iced tea…
Every time I see this title the song that goes through my head is Paul Anka’s You are my Desinty…..

  4. I like to curl up on the saggy old sofa in the study, under the “blankie” with a good book in one hand and a cup o’cocoa in the other. That’s my special place! If I want to be left alone, I just close the French doors into the room.

  5. My favorite reading spot is my recliner in the livingroom with my cat laying under the footrest. Somehow she always knows when I’m about to get up and she moves, thank goodness. I’m not fond of TV so when my husband watches something that doesn’t interest me (which is just about every evening) I read a good book.

  6. If I want to ‘get away’ to relax or read, I can usually be found reclining in my comfy bed. Since I have three cats, I am never alone. They are kind enough to allow a small amount of space for me to stretch out and relax.

  7. We have a reclining sofa that I love to read in. I wear my Snuggie and spend most of the night reading! If it is really cold, then I have a cup of tea.

  8. I have this beautiful office upstairs in my New Home, that I painted the walls a calming green called “Weeping Willow”, it has a comfy, plush chair and all my writing tools. But ever since we got our rescue pups, my new writing spot has become the breakfast bar in the kitchen, with a metal back swivel stool and my husbands laptop computer, oh and I have to listen to my head phones so I can stay in writing mode while he watched television…..yes I know….I also want the puppies to be able to open the door and let themselves out!! haha

    Congrats on the new release!!

  9. Love to soak in the tub with a great book! Unfortunately, since we are a one bathroom household, it is not always as quiet as I like!

  10. I like to curl up on the end of the couch with my sherpa blanket and pillows. I can stretch out my legs or curl them up and relax. It is not big enough for the kids to sit with me- so I have a little “me” time to read 🙂

  11. My favorite spot to curl up with a good book in my glider rocker that sits in front of the window. I love to read all types of books and when I need to take a break from reading , I love to look out the window and see the mountains on the horizon.
    thanks for the giveaway!! 🙂

  12. I have a great chaise lounge in my bedroom, however my husband has appropriated it for himself. Now, when the weather cooperates, I have a cup of coffee and sit under the maple tree by the river in my backyard. Carly is one who keeps me company often.

  13. I just got a brand new couch this summer and finally have my spot in it all comfy. I love to sit on this couch with a blanket, right by the window. I love to read in the natural light, plus I am able to see what is going on outside. In the summer I love to take the kids outside and sit in my favorite lawnchair and just watch them and read. My cats will usually come sit by us also or on my lap.
Would love to win and read this book. Big fan of your books carly. Thanks for the chance to win.

  14. For me, my special spot it’s my bed.
thanks for the giveaway and making international !!

  15. Either on 1 side of the couch or on my bed propped up on pillows. My preferential place of course would be lying on the beach.

  16. I have teenagers who seem to be helpless. They call me for the slightest thing so,to get away from them I lock myself in the bathroom to read:)

  17. I read everyday while I am riding my exercise bike. Sometimes I also read in a chair that I have in my bedroom. I can’t wait to read Destiny!

  18. I love to curl up on my favourite spot on the sofa preferably with a glass of wine at my side.

  19. Sitting in anything as long as I am in front of the fireplace, and for the summer on the deck in the sun.

  20. My place is my office/study, surrounded by my bookshelves, in front of my computer. When I read, I usually sit in my office chair, and prop my feet up on the desk or another chair because there’s more natural light in that room than any other room in the house. So I pretty much do everything in that room except when I go in the living room to watch television or go to the bedroom to sleep.

  21. My recliner. I put up the foot rest and my four legged baby curls up in my lap. He insists on being covered with a blanket and I usually rest my book on the lump 🙂

  22. I love to read in my recliner or a big leather chair that we have in the living room. I enjoy snuggling up in an afghan with my little dog.

  23. Hi, Carly!
Thanks for sharing about your chair! I live hearing about how writers do their writing. My spot for reading, TV, napping- nearly everything used to be in my huge L shaped couch. I always wanted one like that with the short side of the L a luxurious divan. I spent a good long time there but after I herniated a disc in my back in 2010, the couch turned on me! What to do??
I knew I was facing a 2 month recovery out if work post surgery so I created a super comfy spot in my bed. I m w that your bed shouldn’t be the place you hangout in all the time for good sleep hygiene and mood, so I made it like a copy of my couch spot. Lots and lots of pillows to support my poor back and legs, a bed tray w. my books, notepad, nook, tv remote, etc. I also bought a desk like thingy for my computer. It’s heaven. I can comfortably lay around for literally days on end without additional back pain and I have everything I might need right here.

in fact, I’m writing this while in my fav spot. Almost forgot that my silver toy poodle lives to sit on my legs while I read or tap away at the computer. it’s truly my sanctuary.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to wax poetic about my favorite place in my house- my bed!! And also thanks, Minna for the giveaway.

  24. Either snuggled on the den couch or later at night under the covers in bed.

Keep those contemporary romances coming. Love them.

  25. It’s funny that most magazines and advise columns always say that you should not read in bed. But that is my favorite place to read especially with my cat who always keep me company. She would always snuggle with me and talk to me so I ended up reading the book to her (whatever I’m reading at the time).

  26. I have what I call a ‘big, fat chair’ that I love to sit in to read. It’s a bit bigger than a regular chair, but not as big as a chair and a half. It’s very comfortable!

  27. My recliner!! Like yours, it’s catty cornered so I can see the TV. I usually have my small dog in my lap, he’s such a baby!! Please enter me in the giveaway.

  28. We have a very small house, so there aren’t really any choices on where to curl up and read. I have my recliner and reading lamp in our small living room, and that’s usually where I am unless I get chased out by loud football games on the TV.

  29. IWhen the weather is decent, I go to my patio on my lounge chair. Love the outdoor sounds in the background! Otherwise, on the couch in my living room.

  30. My favorite spot for reading is the back seat of the car when it’s parked in the garage. I hide in plain sight.

    marypres(AT)gmail(DOT)com

  31. My sofa. I used to sit at the end closest to the balcony door, but now that it’s dark and gloomy, I’ve switched to the cushion closest to the lamp. There has to be enough room for one of my cats to be smooshed between me and the arm rest though. I guess he likes the warmth.
