I love the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, partly because it’s filled with the awesome, but also because it’s set in my hometown of Atlanta. Every time they describe a certain neighborhood that’s been flattened or changed by the magic shift, I end up laughing like a hyena. Sooo funny…
I had never read a futuristic romance before I tried Undercover by Lauren Dane. I love the Universe she created for her Federation Chronicles series. The societal hierarchy is so interesting to me.
George RR Martin’s series A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE is brilliant. I have just finished the first book GAME OF THRONES. A dangerous world he has created.
I love the world in Immortals After Dark. At first glance it’s just modern day Earth but there is so much more once you factor in all the different aspects of the Lore. I love it!
I love the setting in Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate series. It is such a fun blend of steam punk and supernatural. I really enjoyed the 5th and final book Timeless. I also love Steven Erickson’s world building in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. There is so much history and depth, it feels real. It makes me wish he offered a history course for the world. It is fascinating.
I love the Keri Arthur’s Jensen Riley series. It is futuristic with supernatural involved. It is about keeping law and order in the society of normal and supernatural beings. Jensen Riley is a Guardian who investigate supernatural crimes against the humans. Love her and Quinn
I like the setting in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
I the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey. I would like to spend time in that universe, and I would love to be a herald. (although if you are familiar with that series, the writer really puts her heralds under the ringer sometimes. 🙂
@Joani S: That was supposed to be I Love the Valdemar series.
