Stuck in a colorless world, Tyra Masters decides to chuck her old life and starts searching for something. She doesn’t know what it is until she meets her dream man. The goateed, tattooed, muscled, gravelly voiced motorcycle man who plies her with tequila and gives her the best sex of her life. But she knows it isn’t the tequila and sex talking. He’s it. He’s who she’s been daydreaming about since she could remember.

Until he makes it clear she isn’t who he’s looking for.

Tyra slinks away from his bed, humiliated. The problem is, he’s her new boss. She just may or may not have forgotten to tell him that part.

Kane “Tack” Allen has a rule. He doesn’t employ someone he’s slept with. And he lets Tyra know that in his motorcycle man way. Tyra fights for her job and wins it using sass and a technicality. Tack challenges her that if she hits his bed one more time, she loses her job.

Tyra is determined to keep her job and keep away from Tack. But she makes a big mistake. During their head-to-heads, she lets it all hang out and shows Tack she is who he’s looking for. And Tack has had a good woman slip through his fingers, he’s not about to let that happen again.

Although Tack colors Tyra’s world with a vibrancy that’s blinding, being with him means she has to live in his Motorcycle Club world. Full on, no holds barred. And since Tack’s world, not to mention Tack, is a little scary, Tyra isn’t so sure.

It’s Tack’s job to convince her.

Kristen Ashley is known as the author of crackilicious books that make you jump on the Ashley book train. During this ride, you’ll experience moments of enjoyment, frustration, and a case of ‘huh, what does that mean?’. Ashley’s books feature characters and stories that are addictive, but they also feature terrible editing and run-on sentences that leave you scratching your head in confusion.

I tried Lady Luck, and I had to stop because the writing was terrible and I got tired of mentally editing. So I went on and tried Motorcycle Man. This book had me reading all through the night because it’s pure CRACK. The hero is a bad-ass leader of a motorcycle gang, and he’s so not your typical hero in a romance. He’s the ultimate alpha-hole, and he can only get away with doing the shit he does in an Ashley book.

Tack is a hero that’s ultra possessive, right down to his little toe. He’s also a character that’s the leader of a gang that doesn’t stick by the rules of the law. They have their own law, and they called their ‘women’ old ladies and bitches. It’s a man’s world, and the men rule. Like I said, this for me only worked because it was so cracky, and I don’t expect seriousness from a Kristen Ashley novel (you also shouldn’t expect editing).

The heroine works for me in this book because she’s no doormat. Tyra goes toe to toe with Tack, and they fight constantly because they’re both very strong willed. Tyra at first is a one night stand with Tack. Tack chucks her out of bed and sends her on her way. but what Tack doesn’t expect is for Tyra to show up as his new receptionist. This pisses off Tack because he doesn’t put his dick in his employees. Tyra doesn’t back down, and she’s feeling hurt because she thought he was the one. She’s also hurt because before she enters her new workplace, she sees Tack and another woman in a clinch. This is actually the start of a relationship, because Tack sees that Tyra is not like the other women. In fact, thinking about it there is no certain time that Tack and Tyra start dating. Tack becomes the alpha-hole and tells Tyra there’s a him and her, and that is that.

I’m having a hard time writing this review because…well crap. I don’t know how to properly review a Kristen Ashley novel O.o. I’m going to make this short and sweet.

Motorcycle Man features a alpha-hole hero and a ballsy heroine. The story is full of crack with an evil ex-wife, the Russian mob, and a motorcycle gang that take care of their bitches.

I’m not going to give this a grade because I don’t think you can grade an Ashley book. Fuck, writing this review is as confusing as reading an Ashley novel. If you ever decide to read one of her books, be warned, you’ll most likely end up being confused about how much you enjoyed reading the books.

  1. This book annoyed me to all heck. First you have the crazy jealous ex-wife, enough F this and F that to fill a boat and than the Russian Mob shows up! Ovey.

  2. I loved this book! I’d read a review of Kristen Ashley’s books on another blog about a week ago, checked out her blog (lots of great excerpts), started with Motorcycle Man and now I’m reading my 6th…Sweet Dreams. Some are better than others, but all of them are fun and sexy.as hell..totally addictive.

  3. These books are crack, but there are two things that annoy the crap outta me every time I pick up one of her books.

    1. She is in DESPERATE need of an editor. DESPERATE. Holy wordy Batman!!
    2. Her stories take place in the US, and yet her characters use British slang. It annoys the shit outta me.

    Other than that… *sigh*

  4. After the Dear Author post a week or two ago, I finally decided to take the plunge and I’m in the middle of Motorcycle Man right now. Yup, addictive. I will be reading more. However, I’m going to take a break in between each one because I can see how the writing style would start to drive me insane.

  5. After reading reviews of KA’s books and all the comments about the poor editing, I thought there was no way I’d ever read her. But then I downloaded one (It was only $4 CDN) and I can’t explain it. The heroes can be total assholes, the drama is WAY over the top, the writing is not elegant AT ALL, and in some places is just bad. But there is an energy to the stories that keeps me reading anyway. I have now read a ton of them. I definitely take breaks in between because otherwise, they kind of all run together and get tiresome. The thing that I wonder about, though, is how you give an author like this an incentive to improve the editing of her books. If everyone (including me) just buys them and reads them despite the poor editing, what is the incentive for KA to actually hire an editor and publish a book that will get more unqualified reviews? Almost every review of her stuff that I’ve seen comes with the caveat that it is difficult to assess the books because of the poor editing (among other things).

  6. Yes, I would definitely recommend taking a break between Ashley books. I tried to read another Ashley book after Motorcycle Man, and was beyond irritated when I saw editing mistakes in the first page.

It’s why I didn’t properly grade this book. I refused to give her a grade because of the editing mistakes, yet I can’t deny that this author has talent.

  7. @JenM: I read all four of the Dream Man books back to back, and yeah… the writing drove me NUTS!

@JacquiC: I think that’s the big question. Just imagine how amazing her writing could be if she just got an editor, or hell… even some beta readers to offer suggestions! But yeah, I can see her not having any incentive to pay for an editor when she is selling books anyways. It’s disappointing though, because to me – that says she doesn’t care that her books come across as half assed. 🙁

  8. Lol, great review, thank you And I would love to read this book myself, but I really cannot stand an unedited book. I am allergic to typo’s. Hazard of the day job.

  9. In Ashley’s books, it’s not so much spelling typos as it is her grammar that is the problem. The way I would describe it is that she writes just like people talk. Many people (myself included) often don’t speak with correct grammar – they tend to use slang, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, sentences that kind of meander all over the place until they get to the point, etc. That’s how she writes. It’s rather exhausting to read, but you get used to it. I’m guessing one reason she doesn’t use an editor is that this way of writing is her “voice”. She doesn’t want to mess with it, and no self-respecting editor would let her get away with this.

It’s a bit like JR Ward’s BDB if you’ve read that series, only imagine it on steroids and you’ll get an idea of how she writes. I know some people absolutely hate JR’s writing while others aren’t bothered by it (I love that series and don’t notice the writing once I get pulled into the story). Hmm, I wonder if we did a poll, whether the same people who like the BDB also like Kristen and vice versa?

  10. I do like BDB, and once I am immersed in the story, I don’t mind all the cursing so much, but I don’t think any other author could get away with it.

  11. @JenM: I agree with you to an extent, but at the same time, most people don’t repeat themselves in one sentence as much as her characters do. I can see the value in writing how people actually talk, but even her ‘narrative’ voice is a cluster-F of grammar mishaps, spelling mistakes, and sentences that make zero sense. IMO, that is where she needs an editor most! 🙂

  12. Confused. But not bored…never bored. And not cold; nope you are twitchy and hot. And you want to stomp his gonads and scream at her in a spa far away from his influence. At least until the last third of the book. And you’re as screwed up as she is because your heart squishes and you can’t figure out why.
It is SO not you. Then you buy her next book
