New Reviewer & Kate Daniels read-along

We would like to introduce and bring a warm welcome to our new member, Meka, who will be reviewing for us. Lou will be taking a backseat in reviewing this year so we’re super excited to have Meka join us.

Hello,

I am so excited to be a part of the Bookpushers team!  This is such a
wonderful group with eclectic tastes and I’m thrilled to be a  part of it!

My first foray into romance was at the grand age of 12 when I read ‘Once a
Princess’ by Johanna Lindsey.  It had so much more than any of the more
age-appropriate books that I was supposed to read, and at that time, the
talking book library didn’t realize how old I was and sent me anything I
wanted.  From there, I springboarded into fantasy with David Eddings and
Mercedes Lackey.  I read whatever I could get in Braille or on cassette, and
since my parents couldn’t read in the manner that I could, I snuck many
books past them.

With the advent of Bookshare, the digital expanse of the National Library
Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, and the accessibility of
iBooks, the B&N app, and most recently the Amazon Kindle App, I feel like a
kid who can finally  peruse every fabulous aisle in the candy store.  I have
to tell you, that feeling is absolutely amazing.

Some of my favorite authors are Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, Julie Garwood,
Lauren Dane, Kit Rocha, Janette Oke, Patricia Briggs (I blame  Has so much
for that one), Nalini Singh, Mercedes Lackey, David Eddings,  Cynthia Sax
(who I affectionately refer to as my book crack addiction) and there are so
many others.

One of my favorite books, while not a romance, is called ‘Breaking the Cycle’
by Zane and various other authors. It is an anthology that deals with the
difficult topic of domestic violence and is hands-down one of the most
heart-breaking yet amazing books I’ve ever read.

I love romance in its myriad of forms and crave the happily ever after.  I look forward to getting to know and sharing my opinions with all of you!

  1. Thank you! I’m very excited to be here. I am also super excited about the Kate Daniels read-along. I have never read that series, but it sounds like something right up my alley.

  2. This is the ONLY series I’ve ever re-read. I don’t even watch re-runs! I absolutely love these books and look forward to hearing some new perspectives.

  3. Sounds awesome, this is definitely my favorite series…how do we join in on the read-a-long, since I’ve never done anything like that before…

  4. I found you through Ilona’s blog announcing your read-along, but have never participated in one before. Can you explain how this works? Is it sad I’m willing to join something I don’t understand just for the “excuse” of re-reading my favorite series?

  5. YAY! I love rereads, and I love, love, love Kate Daniels. Do we have to sign up or anything?

  6. Yay…I’m willing to re-read (hmm this would be my third re-read…hehe but who cares, I def don’t) the series all over again. I never get bored and since I’ve started reading them, I get more and more excited to find out what’s going to happen to Kate and Curran.

Thank you Ilona and Gordon for giving us such exciting and fantastic books to read again and again.

  7. All of Ilona Andrew’s books are fabulous! Are you going to broadcast any of the readings?

  8. Glad to see all of the interest in the read-along. We wanted to announce the dates early so people had time to read and hopefully finish one book a week. On the designated friday we will put a post up that has something about the book. It might be our favorite scenes or quotes. It might be out thoughts about the book and hopefully people will reply or add their thoughts/quotes in the comments. So it is kind of like a book discussion. Our goal is that by release week everyone is caught up and really read to enjoy Magic Rises. We are really looking forward to this because it is just another reason for us to re-read a series we enjoy!

  9. I love the kate daniels series and was planning on rereading prior to magic rises release. I have never done a read a long snd llok forward to participating

  10. Welcome to the Book Pushers, Meka! You’ll be an awesome reviewer. I have faith in you. 🙂

Also very excited about the readalong. This is a series I’ve had TBR for years, so this is a good excuse.

  11. Hi Meka,
If you like Patricia Briggs, you will like Ilona Andrews and the Kate Daniels series. I love to hear about how a good reading habit develops (and, yeah, mine has seen its crack-like phases, to be sure!). I am looking forwards to participating in the read-along, as that is exactly how I had planned on spending my time up until the release of Magic Rises. I’ll see you all on the 14th 😉

  12. Hi Meka, welcome to Book Pushers blog, I do share a lot of your favourite authors with you, and look forward to reading your reviews.
