E: Periodically I go onto Entangled’s website and check out their new releases because I usually find a few to enjoy. In this particular case they were talking about the Wedding Dare series. I liked the premise and I had read a few of the authors involved so when the review request for Best Man with Benefits showed up I was certainly interested. Having read this one I think my fingers are going to find their way to buying the rest of the series.
MinnChica: I love my wedding books, so when I got the review request for a book about a nerdy heroine who falls for her brother’s best friend, at a wedding no less, I couldn’t resist. I hadn’t read Beck before, but I think I’m probably going to go back and look through some of her other books, as well as the other books in this Wedding Dare series, because I loved that the books all take place at the same time, and you can see the other stories unfolding as you go. 🙂
E: I thought the overall set-up was interesting. And I enjoyed the play on a stereotype about what happens at weddings with bridesmaids and groomsmen. This particular installment took one of my favorite tropes with the older brother’s best friend or best friend’s younger sister depending on which aspect you choose and threw in a few little twists. I loved the interaction between Sophie who was finally trying to come into her own and Logan who was trying to find balance in his life. Sophie was struggling with a poor self-image thanks to her bullying classmates and her good intentioned but extremely hard to please mother. Logan was torn between his responsibilities/personal expectations as president and CEO of his company and a very healthy helping of guilt at his attraction to his best friend’s younger sister.
MinnChica: I adored both Sophie and Logan. I loved the way that Sophie was continually trying to push herself to become the kind of person she always wanted to be. She wanted to really come out of her shell, and although she was petrified at times, I loved watching her grow on the page. I also liked Logan’s struggle with pulling back a bit at work, and finding some work-life balance. I thought it was fun to watch Logan try and find that line between being involved with his own company, and not being swallowed by it. I liked the way it all played out for him, especially as he had a few “ah-ha” moments. 🙂
E: Beck provided lots of laughs and comedic situations throughout the wedding party but she also included some smoking hot scenes between Logan and Sophie. While Beck showed character development across her story, Sophie experienced the more drastic mental changes and I really enjoyed watching her mature. I also found the snippets of interaction between the other bridesmaids and groomsmen intriguing as hints of their tales were revealed. While this was the last installment if you don’t read the epilogue you won’t be spoiled on who actually ends up with whom.
I give Best Man with Benefits a B+
MinnChica: I thought the sexy scenes were off the charts. Beck sure knows how to write ‘um hot! I loved that Sophie and Logan were able to really let go in the bedroom, and had this anything goes attitude toward each other. It was sexy and steamy and so much fun to read!
All in all, I really liked the fourth and final installment of the Wedding Dare series, I’m definitely going to go back and check out the previous books. I really enjoyed Beck’s writing, and loved the way she took two characters that were really introverted in their own ways and had them both grow and develop. I look forward to reading more from Beck in the future.
I give Best Man with Benefits a B+
It really does sound cute and nice, but I don’t want any more contemporary books on my shelves until I have read 100 of the ones I already have … It is not my favourite genre, and they just pile up! And you keep tempting me!
