I am a huge fan of Tyler’s books and can’t say enough good things about them. I couldn’t wait to read all about Kendra and Declan, and this book totally lived up to my expectations!
Kendra does a little bit of everything at the DCO, but she has never been in the field and desperately wants her chance. Being sent on a routine mission in Costa Rica sounds like a cake-walk, until her team realizes that they aren’t on a routine mission and everything is about to go south.
Declan is trying desperately to get over Kendra, so his order to protect her at all costs hurts his heart more than anything. He would do anything to keep her safe, but being so close to her is tearing him apart. Once the bullets start flying and Declan is forced to take Kendra off to protect her, things get intense. On both the emotional and physical fronts.
Again, I adored this book. I couldn’t wait to see how things would work out between Kendra and Declan, especially since Declan had been crushing on her for so long, while Kendra was hung up on the wrong guy. But now that Kendra has realized she wants to give Declan a real shot, he doesn’t want to have anything to do with her. The angst they both had to work through on that front was so well done, and I loved the way Tyler handled it. It was the perfect blend of drama and also two adults who were rational about their situation.
I have loved Kendra since she stepped onto the page, and getting to see her in the middle of the action was so much fun! I loved the way she kicked ass and took names from the moment the first shot was fired. Although her experience in the field was limited, she took it all in stride and didn’t break. At the same time, she also wasn’t stupid about it. She knew the limits of her abilities and didn’t make stupid decisions or TSTL moves. Kendra might be one of my favorite romance heroines so far this year!
And I have to admit that I loved Declan just as much! Although he was a bear shifter, and a damn good fighter, he had a lot of beta-hero qualities to him that I loved. He was hurt horrifically in the past by his ex-fiance, so falling in love again was something that he was scared of, and he wasn’t afraid to admit it. But when push came to shove, he was all in with Kendra and willing to do anything and everything in his power to keep her safe and alive, and he broke down all his barriers for the chance to save her. *melt*
Like I said earlier, the hurdles these two had to overcome were fairly significant. However, the romance was so well done. I love the way that Tyler doesn’t rush the sexytimes during the midst of all the battles, and all the tender moments came at times that fit well within the pulse-pounding action. Kendra and Declan really had to trust each other out of the gate, and although they struggled in the beginning, they had each other’s backs and they grew to trust each other as a couple as they continued to save each other time and again.
If you are a paranormal romance fan and haven’t started this series yet, it’s a must read. I love how Tyler is really starting to expand on the paranormal elements of the world, and the overall series arc is really picking up the pace. I can’t wait to see what comes next and I’m anxiously awaiting the next book!

Yeah, bear-shifter! I am adding this series to my wishlist. I do love most shifters, especially dragons and bears.
Liam from Jennifer Ashley’s Pride Mates is a favorite of mine.
