The hunt for a stealthy predator takes a damaged J-Psy to the heart of falcon territory in this new Psy-Changeling Trinity novel from New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh…
Justice-Psy Eleri Dias knows the end is near for her, her mind one step away from fatal psychic exposure. In the short time that remains, she is determined to atone for an act of omission that has haunted her for a long, cruel decade. But that decision not only means facing a powerful changeling wing leader, but also putting herself in the path of a serial killer.
Falcon wing leader Adam Garrett is fiercely protective of his family and his clan. After losing his parents as a teenager in a shocking act of malice, Adam has no forgiveness in him for the J-Psy who betrayed him, betrayed them, at the most painful moment of his life. But the evil that stalks his territory will allow him no respite, forcing him once more into contact with the J he has never been able to forget.
Everything that could’ve been between Eleri and Adam was lost years ago, a shimmering promise crushed. As they work to uncover a monster, the moment of reckoning looms ever closer. Soon, there may be no more time left for either atonement…or love…

Atonement Sky is the ninth installment in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series which is the spinoff from the Psy-Changeling series. In this entry of the series the story focuses on a J Psy called Eleri Dias, who is on a mission to catch a serial killer who has murdered several teen girls and a falcon shifter, Adam Garrett, the wing-leader to his clan WindHaven that is based near Raintree territory. Eleri is facing a psychic meltdown due to failing shields and is close to ending her life because J Psy’s are prone to insanity and premature painful deaths due to the nature of their powers while they interact with serial and psychotic killers.
But Eleri has one final quest, to find and stop the Sandman, the notorious serial killer who is also obsessed with her. He has also taunted her with letters and she knows and traced that he is based in the territory of Raintree where the WindHaven clan has settled. Yet there is one person, Adam Garrett, who she gravitated to an instant and deep connection years back, when they were young. But she ends up betraying him and the potential between them was cut prematurely and with bitterness. Nonetheless, with the serial killer case and her impending death, Eleri wants to make up for her betrayal and to gain the clan’s help in capturing the Sandman.
This is a book that centered into the themes of redemption and second chances which I really liked. Eleri is cool but also vulnerable and Adam was delightfully protective and caring despite the deep misgivings for her. While I liked the romance between them, I did feel that Adam overcame his issues about their past pretty quickly and I would have loved more time to develop their reconnection because I felt a lot was happening with the serial murder case and other events in the story which sort of overshadowed the romance. But I really enjoyed the yearning in their relationship, and I really felt for Eleri, who was grieving for the lost promise of what could be and Adam wanting to fight and defend her against her failing shields and sanity.
I also really enjoyed some of the side characters, Nalini Singh has a wonderful talent in creating such vibrant and memorable characters, and Dahlia, Adam’s Wing-second was just fantastic! She was brash, confident and self assured. I think I got a girl crush because she was so much fun and didn’t take fools lightly and I really adored her romance with Bram, who was also a J Psy and part of Eleri’s team and found family. I really wished Bram and Dahlia had a full book, because they were compelling and had great chemistry that leapt and sizzled from the pages. I loved their banter and I was disappointed we didn’t get more of them on page.
In a lot of ways, this was more of a side story with an intriguing mystery and lays out more of the shifter world. It was interesting to see another type of the Changeling world with the falcons and seeing how they lived and interacted with the various factions that surround them and also the cameos from characters in the previous books. But there is a fascinating story thread during the end which is a bit of a gamechanger for all three factions of the Psy-Changeling world which will have repercussions for Humans, Psy and Changelings and I am really looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
Overall, Atonement Sky is an intriguing entry in the Psy-Changeling series, with a heartfelt romance that is full of yearning and redemption and an ending that promises a big change for this world.
I give Atonement Sky a B-
