A Sultry Summer Nights Novel

The last thing ex-SEAL Sergei Gun needs is a complication. As part of a powerful black-ops company, he’s led an extraction team into the Mexican jungle to rescue two men who have been kidnapped. Everything has gone according to plan until Serge discovers a third hostage-an exquisitely beautiful woman with a secret haunting her stormy gray eyes . . . a woman who refuses to make this rescue easy. With no choice but to bring her back to the compound deep in the sultry, steamy Louisiana bayou, Serge vows to protect her, body and soul . . .

Kara Nichols never imagined that she’d capture the interest of a powerful man like Serge. Yet from the moment they met, she’s fantasized about his strong hands caressing her naked skin, his musky scent lingering on her sheets. What began as a simple rescue mission ignites into a passionate affair. As Serge teaches her the tantalizing art of surrender, Kara finds herself more than willing to shed every last one of her inhibitions and submit to him fully. But the dark, dangerous forces that captured Kara aren’t ready to let her go so easily . . .

Kara Nichols is living a nightmare when after a series of dates with a hot guy called Lucio– who she is beginning to fall for–turns into a monster by drugging, and kidnapping her to Mexico to face a life of sexual slavery. Yet when Sergei Gun’s team of mercs are on a mission to save a couple of oil men taken for ransom, the former Seal comes across Kara and saves her. Kara’s life is is still in danger due to her uncle’s murky dealings with Lucio, who is linked with a cartel, and he is determined to hunt her down, although Sergei is determined to keep her safe.

This was a gem of a book and I was engaged with the story straight from the beginning due to a tense rescue mission which was exciting and intriguing with likeable leading characters. Sergei made a great impression as the hero who helps save Kara from a horrible fate. While making the mistake of trusting the wrong man, Kara was a fun heroine who was resourceful and smart. I loved how she battled Sergei in the beginning, thinking he was one of the bad guys, which made him respect her. Their relationship takes a much sweeter and tender turn as they get to know each other a bit more, and even though Kara is inexperienced and a virgin, she’s willing to explore a sexual relationship with him despite her life being in a state of flux because of the threats she has faced.

I also did not expect the erotic edge of the series because I missed out reading on the first book, so the whole private club thing was unexpected. But I really loved and enjoyed the love scenes which was sensual and sexually intense with hints of BDSM and exhibition/voyeurism, which Sergei’s team-mates also enjoy. However, I really liked how this was set up even though I am not a huge fan of BDSM club themed books. The elements of romantic suspense and the sweet romance with a raw undertone was addictive. Delilah Devlin has a great way and skill with describing her love scenes which was scorching hot as well as realistic. I loved the scene when Kara lost her virginity; it was realistic, sexy as hell, and very tender. And I have to sigh over Sergei who was really protective and caring. I liked how he had to battle his feelings over Kara because of her innocence while she embraced her own agency and pursued him.

However, on the romantic suspense front, I would have liked more information on the reasons why Kara was kidnapped–whether that was due to her uncle’s links with the cartel and Lucio? Or whether it was due to her being a virgin and a way for her uncle to get rid of her due to him defrauding her from her inheritance. I liked the subplot but I wished it was developed a bit more but the real focus was on the romance which I felt was somewhat rushed, especially towards the end.

HIS EVERY FANTASY is a hot and heavy romantic suspense that was surprisingly tender and sweet at times. I also really liked how Delilah Devlin combined those elements with intense love scenes which had hints of BDSM and enjoyable leads. I think fans of BDSM club scene romance will enjoy this series immensely with a bit of a twist of alpha Seal heroes and assertive heroines. I will definitely be checking out the rest of this series.

I give HIS EVERY FANTASY a B-
